Bronze Lens
Design: The Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 is an ultra-compact digital camera available in silver, black, blue and bronze. The attractive ridged design makes for a better grip while the 6.1-ounce body offers a more solid feel. Measuring 3.9 inches wide by 2.4 inches high by 0.9 inch deep the camera fits easily into any pocket. With almost all the controls located on the back the camera can be used in a one-handed grip securely. Controls were evenly spaced despite the 3-inch LCD on the back.
Specifications: Using a 12 megapixels 1/2.3-inch CCD, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 offers a 5x optical zoom lens with f3.8-8 aperture and 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) focal length for wide angle shots. The camera takes pictures in JPEG for up to 4000×3000 pixel shots and MP4 movies at 1280×720 and 30fps. The camera offers mechanical and electronic image stabilization and with its rechargeable li-ion battery the camera can last for 300 shots on a single charge.
Features & Performance: The Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 offers an extensive feature set including up to ISO 3200 sensitivity, various white balance options, Intelligent Auto and other recording modes, semi-manual focus, Spot AF, metering, color effects and a burst shot mode of up to 100 photos. The interface is intelligent enough to warn you about adjusting certain settings while semi-manual focus allows 1.0m, 3.0m, 7.0m and unlimited distance as well as exposure bracketing.
Performance-wise the camera is very good with a startup to first shot time of 1.3 seconds and a shutter lag of around 0.4 second and up to 0.7 second in dim light. Shot-to-shot time is an average of 2.3 and 2.7 seconds with the flash on. Burst speed was impressive at 2.1 frames per second. Photo quality was pleasing and accurate especially for color and exposure while video quality was also good at 720p and 30fps.While price may vary, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 offers performance and quality at a much more affordable price point than cameras with less power and features making it an awesome performance ultra-compact for the masses.
