Has anyone got any ideas on how to deodorize a wool/cashmere coat?
Hello,
I have recently been given a wool /cashmere coat, however it stinks of perfume. It was very strong to start with, so I hung it outside in the well ventilated greenhouse for a week, and also have hung it on the washing line in the breeze. The smell has faded but is now a musty stale smell.
It is dry clean only and i cant afford to have it dry cleaned at the moment and I don’t want to risk putting it in the washing
machine even on a wool wash. I have thought of febreeeze but ma concernd it will then smell of febreeze..– does any one have any ideas on how to deodorise it?
100% Cashmere needs care as its delicate. But hand washing at home with proper wool wash doesn’t cause any problems. Because we are trading in cashmere so we have tried and tested it. People generally say on label to dry clean for being bit safe.
Here is step by step instructions you can follow:
1. Buy a wool detergent (not softener) from a nearby shop/store. It should say on the bottle that it is safe to wash wool.
2. Take a luke warm water and mix the wool detergent in it (as mentioned on bottle of wool detergent)
3. Keep cashmere in the above mixture of liquid for 15-20 minutes.
4. Hand wash gently and then use clean water to take detergent out of cashmere.
5. Hand squeeze as much water as possible from the cashmere. Don’t wring
6. Lay flat to dry on a clean sheet.
