Curly Ponytail
When it gets hot, your hair can seem like it’s betraying all the styles you’ve come to adore over the fall, winter, and spring. Hair that used to do what it was told is now frizzing out and having humidity tantrums like you wouldn’t believe. What are you going to do? Depending on your hair type, there are a few different answers.
Coarse or Thick Hair
If you’ve got hair that other people are jealous of but you can’t imagine why, you are probably rocking thick, coarse hair – possibly even really curly coarse, thick hair. The first thing you can do to tame that hair and bring it down is by either blow drying it out (which can take hours!) or using a great conditioning flat-iron. It will condition your hair while it gets rid of the frizzies that make you want to say to heck with your longer locks and get a pixie cut. Now you can keep your hair as long as you want to and it will look good. Just make sure to add some styling product into the mix or your conditioned, flat-ironed hair will only last so long and then will start poofing up and frizzing out.
Thin or Fine Hair
Stop being jealous of the thick-haired girls, especially in summer. You can throw your hair up into a sleek chignon and it won’t feel like a ten pound fur weight on top of your head. If you’re really in a rush you can even put it in a ponytail. If you do, however, decide to give up on style and stick with the ponytail make sure to do a few simple things to make your pony look great.
1. Don’t let the rubber band or ponytail holder show. So simple, you just leave one lock of hair out (preferably from the bottom of your hairdo) and then wrap it around the ponytail holder so it looks like your ponytail is being held beautifully in place by only a wrap of hair. Keep that piece in place with a well-placed bobby pin for all day hold and a classic look.
2. Don’t forget the curling iron! You can add a cute little curl at the end of your ponytail that makes it look more stylish than people will want to admit. Curling a ponytail looks best if you do a low ponytail and then bring the curls around to the side. For a shorter ‘do your pony should be about eye-level and then put a little swing at the bottom of the pony so it looks bouncy and healthy.
Following these steps will have you looking playground or corporate office ready even during the dog days of June and beyond.
