How to make silk scarves silkier?
I recently bought some silk scarves (100% silk) off of ebay (they came from hawaii not china lol) and they don’t feel silky like i expected. o.O When i asked the seller why they don’t feel silky, they said the scarves hadn’t been pretreated and that i could wash them with salt to make them feel a little softer. o.O I’d return the scarves but i really like the design on them. What can i do to make the scarves feel silky (minus the salt thing)?
like the scarves aren’t even soft, they just feel like regular old scarfs i could’ve bought @ regular store
I have been cheated twice using Ebay. I will never buy anything there again. I have never heard of washing silk in salt. You can try this instead:
Wash them in the sink in lukewarm water, add a pinch of borax or a few drops of ammonia to the water. Then dissolve a small amount of mild detergent such as Woolite or baby shampoo in the water. Maintain a constant lukewarm temperature throughout the wash to avoid stressing the fibers. Soaking silk can cause the dyes to run and should be avoided. After washing, rinse the silk thoroughly in cool water. That should was any residue from the “pretreating” out and hopefully they will come out silkier.
