Can a credit union do this legually?
I bank at a credit union. When I first opened the account they issued me a debit card. That I use to buy medication with, for eBay, buying fabric on the net & other things. On the 11th I lost the card. I called the bank & told them. I went to the police dept & filed a report &, took it to my bank. Someone charged a trip to the Caribian on it. I called the travel agency & got my money back the next day. The bank called me & told me they weren’t going to issue me another card. Can they do that legually?
Just because they messed up and didn’t cancel the debit card right way. Gives them no right not to issue another debit card, it may be against MasterCard and/or Visa policy. You could actual report the bank to them. They could lose the right to issue any more MasterCard and/or visa debit cards and be required to close current ones with 6 months.
I would go to another bank myself. Try to find one that does not do Credit Check for either their checking account or check/debit card.
I would go to the bank and tell them if they won’t issue a new debit card. As soon as my checks clear. I will be closing my account. Be nice. You don’t want to get thrown out. If you know what checks/ACH charges remain. Take out all but the leave about $1.00 plus their service charges-if any.
Then when you checks clear. Hard close your checking account. Make sure you put that in writing. So they can not come back at you later. Saying you allowed a charge to go through.
