Hair Extension Considerations
Maybe you have decided it is time for a new look and a new you. One way to do this that is very popular is to consider using hair extensions. This idea is nothing new, but technology of late has made these products so realistic that is almost impossible to tell what is your hair and what has been added by the salon. You can find these extensions in both synthetic hair, or real human hair, and you can have it applied in several different ways. Now, if you are serious about adding extensions, you should shop around and talk to different professional hair salons. Find someone you who is knowledgeable and who you think you can trust, and find out the type of materials they will use on your extensions. Make sure you also find out how much they will charge you for this service, as the prices will vary widely from salon to salon. It is best to use your own salon as you know what to expect, or if you have a friend who can recommend a salon then this would be an good choice as well. Be sure to ask questions before, during, and after the process until you are comfortable with the entire process. Once you take the plunge and you have your extensions applied there are a few care tips to consider. The most important thing to remember is to be gentle with your new hair at all times. Sure you can comb it, style it, brush it, swim with it, and do almost anything in your new hair you normally would but be careful. When you have tangles make sure you go nice and easy when you try to comb or brush them out. When you are doing your daily styling make sure you do not pull on your hair to tightly, go nice and easy. If you happen to notice that your extensions are not as tight as they were then this is normal and means your hair has grown some and you need to go back to your stylist. You should wash your hair with a mild shampoo only every two or three days at most. Do a good job when bathing and make sure to clean your entire scalp, then make sure to use a heavy conditioner so your extensions will be properly protected. You may decide that you do not want to go with full blown adhesive applied extensions and you may just opt to go with clip on hair instead. This is a very easy process and the least costly, but it does not look quite as natural. It is extremely difficult to match the hair color of your existing hair, especially with clip ons. To make matters even worse, your hair can lighten during the warmer months making the clip ons even more noticeable. With clip ons it is highly recommended to have a professional select and apply them because the color matching with your own hair is so difficult. One final thing to consider is whether your new extensions will be made from natural human hair or synthetically manufactured hair. Most professional hair stylists will tell you that human hair is the most natural looking and will last the longest. However, this option is the most expensive and if you are on a budget then synthetic hair extensions are a good option. If the extensions are made extremely well they will look surprisingly natural and you will end up with a look you are satisfied with. One piece of advice with extensions is to go slow at first and do not over do it. It is very easy to add more to your look as time goes on and it will blend in very nicely and give you a professional styled look.
