Human hair extensions are by far the most popular choice for those who want to add length, volume, highlights, lowlights, and even glamour to their existing hairstyle. These extensions are much higher in quality and last longer than synthetic extensions. The reason for this is because human hair has a healthy cuticle, which gives it a shiny, glossy look. The cuticles are aligned in the same direction to prevent the hair from tangling.
Synthetic extensions, on the other hand, is a manmade fiber created to resemble real hair. Synthetic tangles quite easily and appears very dry and brittle. Also, since synthetic does not match the texture of real hair, it does not blend well. Different types of Hair Used in the Extension Industry:
• Asian – Most Asian hair used for extensions comes from the Chinese, and is used quite often. The hair is dark black and thicker than European. Asian hair is less expensive than other types.
• European – European hair is somewhat thin and is a very popular type for extensions. European hair is silky and shiny.
• Indian – Indian hair is extremely healthy and naturally shiny. It has the same basic structure as European, and is considered very high in quality.
• Virgin – Virgin hair has never been chemically treated. It has never been exposed to flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers, or any chemicals whatsoever. Extremely desirable in the extension industry.
• Remy – Remy hair is of Indian origin and the hair is aligned with all the cuticles facing the same direction. Extremely popular and high in quality. Very natural and healthy looking. Lasts longer than any other extensions.
Texture
Human hair extensions are sold in two different textures: Silky (European) or Yaki (slightly courser and has more volume than European). Silky hair is soft and silky. Yaki is ideal for many African Americans who already have slightly wavy hair or for those who desire more volume than European.
100% Human Hair can be styled in any way using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron. When choosing extensions, remember to choose the texture that most resembles your own. If you have naturally kinky hair, it’s probably not a good idea to choose straight, silky extensions because they’ll end up looking unnatural. Extensions should blend easily with your own hair to create a natural, blended look.
