It is a long way that hankies have been widely using from 15th centuries for practical purpose and it became a fashion in around 1920, people started using it in their breast pocket for fashion. Then people started using two hankies one for use and other for show. The practical hankies were usually made of linen and cotton, where as the fashion Pocket Squares can be show in different colors and outline and in fabrics for instance silk. If you are choosing some color then it is a fashion or one can say a traditional style to match the color scheme with the pocket square to the neck tie. Though it is not necessary to match every color with the rest of outfits but to look stylish one must do it.
Later the introduction of paper tissues in the thirties reduced the need of hankies but pocket square continued as gentlemen’s fashion, the popular way of showing was a single corner which was poking out of the breast pocket.
Pocket squares and Linen Pocket Square again remains a fashionable accessory even today. Though it’s true that the basic reasons for hauling a handkerchief lost its relevance with the introduction of the disposable tissues, but it’s a fact that if a breast pocket is there, it must carrying something like hanky otherwise it looks ugly and when a jacket with a breast empty pocket, seriously looks odd.
The popular way of displaying this style is folded one corner so that other must be appears and another common way to show this fashion accessory to fold it so that three points emerge from the pocket. Solid color is the traditional way of using Linen pocket square, white is considered as the most formal dress and stylish as well, while navy blue burgundy red hankies are considered as less formal. Though pochettes with more color and design is not formal but looks elegant in style and a very classy and sexy. Burgundy red, green, and navy blue pochette looks casual but sophisticated and much popular in style.
