“Police on Wednesday arrested a woman who was praying at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, due to the fact that she was wrapped in a prayer shawl (tallit).
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the Shas party’s spiritual leader, said during his weekly sermon that the women in the feminist movement are “stupid” and act the way they do out of a selfish desire for equality, not “for heavens’ sake.”

Do you know something, I’ve always been a great supporter of the Women of the Wall – and wear a tallit myself, as a woman – and basically think that Shas is a pain in the butt. But as soon as you bring this one up as yet another of millions of attempts to discredit Jews, suddenly I find myself wanting to defend Shas. So I’ll stop before I go against my own ethics.
