Why do I keep shoplifting!?
Ok, all my life I have shoplifted, its not something I’m proud of. I have stolen, small toys, sweets and stuff like that, but yesterday I unententually took it up a notch.
I was in a dressing room trying on a few dresses for a party (alone) when I got this sudden urge or felling or whatever. Whenever I got it I know I’ll always walk out of a shop, store, warehouse without paying for something.
I mentally calcualted the cameras and staff, and the dress wasn’t tagged. Before I know it the dress was in my small shoulderbag, and I was walking out of the shop.
Its weird and I spent the next two hours checking out other clothe’s shops for security tags and oppertunitys.
I didn’t set out to steal the dress, I had the money and was willing to pay, but before I thought about it, it was in my purse. I feel to scared to take it back. Anyone else have this experience?
It’s because shoplifting is a thrill and knowing that you may possibly get caught makes it seem like an adventure. Each time you do it, your brain releases endorphins that make you feel “high.” The problem with this is, it can be addictive. After a while, you will need to take bigger risks to get that “high” and you will need to take them more often until you eventually, and inevitably, get caught.
I would suggest talking to a therapist about the things you’ve done and how you’ve felt about it. There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, but it could have some really bad consequences, so you want to do something about it before it gets out of hand. I would also suggest having your mom or a friend that won’t indulge this type of behavior go into stores with you.
The fact that you recognize this as a problem says something good about you.
