Wide Brim Hat
What is the etiquette for ladies wearing hats to outdoor weddings? I am attending a wedding this week & would
like to wear a hat with my cotton summer tea length dress. What are the rules to follow for ladies and hats? Do I have to remove my hat at any time and if it is a wide brimmed hat are there any rules about embracing someone without smacking them in the face with the brim. Any quick help would be great!
You are permitted to wear your hat outdoors as long as you do not block the view of other participants. Remember this as you choose your hat. Perhaps you might select something with a mesh or net brim.
If you are blocking someone’s view it would be considerate to remove the hat before being asked.
When greeting others, you are allowed to keep the hat on and assume the “air kiss” head position in order to not poke them with the brim. If you are poking people, take it off.
Much of etiquette is simple courtesy.
